Ps 56: 8 You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.
Have you ever felt forgotten? Children often forget their parents’ anniversary and, birthdays. Sometimes they try to make up for it but they periodically fall short. In the past we have visited our children and grandchildren who did not realize it was our birthday. We sucked it up and enjoyed the time together. Then we went home and shed tears.
God sees our tears, not just of disappointment, sadness or sorrow but also of joy, delight and happiness. He knows and sees everything and he keeps a record of it all. God never forgets us.
Our tears are precious to God. In ancient times water was occasionally difficult to find, and when found needed to be preserved because the dry climate would cause water to evaporate. The same is true with our spiritual resources. Cherishing our time with God assures us not only that he loves us but also stays with us.
David had drained all his ability fighting the enemy, but he knows God has a record of every time he cried out for help. His faith told him that God is there. Verse 9 ends with “This I know: God is on my side”! Wow, to have that kind of knowledge is wonderful but it comes from dedication, prayer and dependence on God, not on this world. You will never be forgotten.
