As children we all look for a protector, someone who loves us and is strong. My favorite cartoon was Mighty Mouse. He was always there to “save the day.” Unfortunately, as we grow up, reality sets in and we can become disillusioned.
As a young adult, I did some strange things, but I was oblivious to the dangers of my behavior. After several “close calls” a friend told me there was a better way to live. She invited me to church. I refused. “I’m not that bad” was my response. Then I hit rock bottom. I was going through a storm, not of wind or rain, but of spirit. The temptations were all around me, parties, bars and men telling lies, but then I remembered church hymns I’d heard as a child and knew it was time. I found myself at the New Orleans Mission and rededicated my life to the mightiest one of all Jesus Christ. While volunteering there my life changed.
Jesus loved me and was there to grab me, hold on when I got lost and mighty enough to keep me safe through some very dark times. God protects his people and if he is mightier than raging seas and controls hurricane winds, he can forgive my mistakes, bad decisions, and sin. I thank God every day that forty-four years ago I learned Jesus was mightier than Mighty Mouse.
