Ps 85:7 Show us your unfailing love, O Lord, and grant us your salvation.
When the sons of Korah returned to Jerusalem from their captivity in Babylon they found a barren and desolate city. Their spirit felt the same. Sometimes the exterior is restored but not the interior. They believed their sins were forgiven but wanted a new fire of love for God. In other words, they needed a change of heart.
I wondered why people sometime feel the need to ask God for forgiveness over and over until I realized they had “heart problems.” Forgiveness from God is instant. Occasionally, time is needed to repair the old desolate parts of life and renew it with God’s unfailing love. Once this happens our hearts can be renewed with a zeal for everything God has for us.
The psalmist knew from experience God will never reject an open heart of repentance. A heart of true repentance is a changed heart. No more walking the fence of spirituality. Total commitment is the healing balm needed. Once the mercy and truth of God’s love is found he will repair all of our heart problems with his ever present love for us.
