Ps 84:11 For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.
As we compare God to the sun, we see him as dependable, always there for us, never wavering. The warmth from the sun comforts us and gives us light to guide us in the right way to live. The sun also gives energy. When it’s cloudy or storming we feel “under the weather” or sluggish. But on a bright sunny day we feel we can conquer the world.
In ancient Israel a soldier depended on a physical shield for protection during battle. We need protection 24/7 from mental, emotional and spiritual attacks. God, as a shield, not only protects but covers us with love and saving grace. When we feel the onslaught of the enemy, we can pray for his help and covering. No enemy can cross the barrier of his shield.
The blood not only shields and protects us during times of problems but also guards against danger and keeps us safe from future attacks. Our salvation and security actually depend on the shield of blood. When you see the sun thank God for his ability to heal, energize us, and keep us safe.
