WORD OF THE DAY IS DESIRE

Ps 84:5, 6 What joy for those whose strength comes from the Lord, who have set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem.  When they walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs. The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings.

The sons of Korah, who were the choir singers and musicians, participated during the Festival of Tabernacles. Unfortunately, the son of Korah who wrote this psalm was unable to attend. We don’t know why. We do know he was heartsick.

Yes, we can worship God anywhere. Something about church always brings a smile to a worshiper’s face. As I read this passage, I wondered if I had ever been that upset at missing church. Work, illness, or family emergencies have caused me to miss church but I have also found churches to visit while on vacation. There was something wonderful about being able to thank God for a wonderful and safe vacation with local believers of the area.

God gives us the desire to be with other believers. We grow and become spiritually stronger when that desire is fulfilled. Is this what this psalmist missed; special time with others? Remember to fill your heart’s desire with God’s desire.
