Ps 79:5 O Lord, how long will you be angry with us? Forever? How long will your jealousy burn like fire?
Can the Lord be jealous? Over and over the bible explains how the Israelites turned from the one true God and served other Gods. All he ever wanted was their love, devotion and respect but when they gave it to others, he was jealous. When God is jealous, he allows Satan to test us. Can we relate?
But a righteous jealously is different from our worldly jealously. Our jealously can come from lack of self-confidence and doubts about your abilities and skills. I have felt the wrath of this jealously for years. It can be irrational perceptions, poisonous lies, verbal abuse and physical assault.
There is a new study that found the hormone oxytocin which is naturally found in us all, affects behaviors, such as empathy and generosity. Unfortunately, in some, it stimulates the opposite behaviors, such as gloating and jealously. Each time these encounters occur, I praise God that he gives me the fortitude to not only resist but to overcome these attacks. He protects me with truth and the fact that my conscience is clear of any wrong doing against this person.
We all have situations of jealous people trying to bring us down, but God told us we would be persecuted for his sake. As long as Christ is with me it doesn’t matter what people do to me either emotionally, spiritually or physically. My God is bigger than jealously.
