Ps 78:37 Their hearts were not loyal to him. They did not keep his covenant.
Loyalty is the quality of being faithful and dependable to someone or something. Keeping your word may sound easy, but it’s not. Loyalty should come not from a sense of duty, but a heart of commitment.
The children of Israel said they would follow the One True God but it didn’t take long before their intensions are forgotten and they turned from God. When they needed help they called on God, recommitted their lives to him, and then forgot about him again. Lip service is not true repentance. This reminds me of the saying “the road to hell is paved with good intentions.” No one seems to know the true origin of the saying, but it has held up to the test of time as a true proverb. God wants our promises to him backed up with actions.
Being loyal, dependable, and faithful through words and actions will pay off in the future with a life following God. When trouble comes you will be ready with help from the Holy Spirit. Through all the promises the Israelites broke, God remained loyal and faithful to them. God truly loves us and proves it every time through his loyalty to mankind.
