Ps 72:2 Help him judge your people in the right way; let the poor always be treated fairly.
I dislike politics. I understand the concepts and the need, but have difficulty with all the games the politicians play. I know it may be the wrong attitude, but that’s my opinion. More importantly, even if I don’t like the decisions made by our leaders, I still pray for them. I believe, even though we vote for our leaders, God puts the correct person in leadership positions.
As citizens of this great nation, it is our responsibility to support our leaders, even if we don’t agree with them. That’s where prayer comes in. Our country was founded on “in God we trust” so I don’t need to get angry or lash out about a decision made because I know God is in control. Some may feel I am naive but I feel that God wants our leaders to be just and righteous. If all world leaders committed themselves to these two qualities, there would be many changes. When the news portrays negativity about our politicians, ask God to help them see their need for him.
Solomon, a just and wise leader, reigned in Israel’s golden age and the land rested in peace. Nevertheless, this Psalm gives hope of a future king-Jesus. At that time, human rule will give way to God’s rule as Jesus reigns over the earth. Then, all our questions about decisions our leaders made will be answered. If not, it won’t matter because we will reign with him forever.
