WORD OF THE DAY IS LEGACY

Ps 71:18 Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your powers to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me.

Now that I am seasoned with salt and pepper hair, I find myself drawn to children. Our nephew lives next door with his daughter. I prayed God would show me how to leave a spiritual legacy in her life.

One day, his daughter asked why we were never home on Sunday morning. “We go to church every week unless one of us is sick.”

“I go to church with my dad sometimes, but he left for a while,” she said.

I asked her grandmother if it would be ok if Alice came to church with us. I explained that she would be with other children in a social atmosphere and maybe it would allow her to grow and become more self-confident.

When her Dad returned, she invited him to come to church with us. Now, on Sunday morning, they come over and she and I start our routine. We pick earrings together and she lets me know if my hair looks good. This may sound small, but later in life she will look back with fondness at the time spent with me in positive and constructive ways. I found many “teachable moments” to build a lasting spiritual legacy in their lives.
