Ps 65:4 What joy for those you choose to bring near, those who live in your holy courts…
In the Old Testament, only Levitical priests were allowed in the Holy of Holies. These were the chosen and most of them took that designation with great respect and obedience. They were special, privileged, and had benefits. Where did that leave everyone else? Everyone else had specific areas of the temple, depending on their status, to worship God. However, only the high priest was allowed to get close to God.
I’m so thankful Jesus made us equal. Today, we can achieve the closeness to God our soul desires. At the death of Jesus the veil, separating the Holy of Holies from the rest of the temple, tore open allowing us all the privileges and benefits of the Levites.
The other good news is we can enter the ‘Holy of Holies’ anywhere anytime. Prayer to God closes the gap between us and wherever we are becomes a holy place. There are days I just want to be left alone away from people, things, and responsibility. But I am never totally alone, my God is right there with me. That closeness is what our spirit craves. Take time to enjoy the closeness only Jesus can give.
