Ps 63:8 I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely.
What do you cling to? For some, it may be a past relationship or a past decision. Others may hold on to past mistakes never accepting forgiveness. Perhaps it is something current that keeps us from growing and maturing in God. Clinging to the wrong things can cause an imbalance in our lives, especially spiritually.
In this Psalm David acknowledges that he clings. However, he realizes the need to cling to the right things. David understood the power, glory and unfailing love of God came from his creator. Clinging to earthly things will never satisfy our spiritual being.
I have difficulty sleeping when I have many things to do the next day. Counting sheep may work for some, but not for me. I relax, pray calmness over my mind and start “clinging” to all the blessings I have received from my Lord. Counting blessings not only calms me it reminds me of all the good going on around me.
Making a conscious choice to think on good things preserves and builds my spirit just like David clinging to God’s strong right hand. Try it. You will be surprised at the peace you feel. And before you realize it, you are clinging to the good things of God.
