WORD OF THE DAY IS FORTRESS

Ps 59:9 You are my strength; I wait for you to rescue me, for you, O God, are my fortress.

This Psalm comes from a very personal cry for help. David was again in a place of running from Saul but he realized that the enemies of the king were also the enemies of God’s chosen people, which included himself. Yet through everything, he knew that God was his fortress (defense).

Do you ever watch for the Lord?

One morning, I sat on my deck drinking coffee and reading the Bible. I was a little down about my husband’s health challenges. I felt God’s assurance that it would be fine but I still prayed. When I opened my eyes, there was Mortimer Squirrel, yes we named them, sitting on the fence eating a Cyprus frond. Mortimer dropped to the ground, got another, and buried it in the yard. God showed me that even though winter was coming Mortimer was not worried. He knew his defense was burying food for later.

Thank the Lord, my defense and fortress is in God. What is your fortress?

When things are not going the way you thought they should watch for God and he will be your fortress. If in the car, turn off the music, if at work, the store or the quietness of the morning—look for Him. Listen to the sounds around you, search your soul, and listen for his voice. He is there. Everything that is troubling your heart will seem smaller, even non-existent when you watch for Him.
