Ps 23:1-3 The Lord is my shepherd; I have all I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews (refreshes, restores) my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.
This is the most well-known of all the Psalms and the most quoted. It is recited to dry tears, comfort hearts and heal hurts. Unfortunately, sometimes this Psalm is mentioned out of habit more than for its meaning
Can you imagine what thoughts David had as he tended his father’s sheep? Night after night knowing that God was with him as he protected the lives entrusted to him. He probably contemplated all the times God provided for him and protected him from danger. We can relate to him in our lives, not only in our own family but also in God’s family. Think of how many times someone you meet needs a word of understanding or comfort. God always gives you the right words or action. Maybe a hug, a word of encouragement or help with a ride to buy groceries. We should always be there for the “sheep” God puts in our path.
The Lord renews refreshes and restores is my favorite blessing. Every time I open a Bible, He renews me. When I see a beautiful sunset along a sand covered beach and feel his “breath” blowing over me, he refreshes me. Whenever I am down and feel defeated by the pressures of life, I pray and he comes to restore and give me strength to carry on.
