Ps 16:7-8 I will bless the Lord who guides me; even at night, my heart instructs me. I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.
Guidance is of paramount importance in this life. Who guides you? As a child, usually our parents or any other loving, nurturing person guides us. As we grow up, we then allow others to guide us. Unfortunately, that person may not lead us in the right way. As teens and young adults, we may rebel and make our own plans. When things don’t go as we planned, we finally go to God and ask him, “What happened?” Instead of planning our life then asking God to bless it, we should seek God first.
As a newly married Christian, I tried to follow the guidance of God first then my husband, but when our church planned a trip to the Holy Land, it was too irresistible. We put our name on the list. After praying, the due date in March arrived and God provided the money for the non-refundable deposit. After church, we waited in line to pay. Suddenly, we both looked at each other and realized something was wrong. We walked to the end of the line and prayed again. Only 15 minutes had passed but God made himself very clear. When we arrived to give the money, we told them that God said, “NO.” I will never forget the puzzled look on the person’s face.
On the morning we would have flown to Israel in October, my husband rushed his dad to the emergency room and he died that weekend. Now God’s complete plan was revealed. If we had gone on that trip we would not had been here for our family or each other.
Through the years, we continue to depend on the guidance of the Holy Spirit. God allows us to be in difficult situations, causing us to depend on him even more. We believe God’s guidance will bring us through anything.
