WORD OF THE DAY IS WISE

Ps19:7 The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.

If creation is God’s  word then his instruction is his living word. God gives us guidelines on how to live in the Bible. We need the insight of God’s word to fully understand his creation. As we trust and believe his teachings we become wise and develop faith that he is among us.

As a baby Christian, I was always amazed by the wisdom of everyone in the church. Even those younger than me seemed to know more than me. I envied their knowledge and closeness to God. Now I understand that chronological age has nothing to do with a relationship with Jesus, but with time spent in his word. I was so excited and grateful when I discovered my first 365-day reading plan. It was difficult at first because things got in the way. I prayed and persisted until the light of God’s word opened my understanding. After the first year, I found a bible version that was easier to understand and already broken down into daily readings. I asked my husband to join me for this special time and it brought us even closer.

We began discussing the topic of the day or maybe a particular verse. This opened the door for our son to ask questions about what he “overheard” us reading. The next year we also read “The Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren and asked our son to join in the reading. It wasn’t easy but it worked.  We became closer as a family and I finally appreciated that God gives us wisdom but not all of it at one time. When did I become so wise? Actually, I’m still working on that.
