Ps 37:3 Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper.
Human nature is self-centered. We do “good” for personal benefit. We compete in every aspect of life, thinking that if we beat out a coworker or friend we will get more; more money, respect or even prestige. We compare ourselves to others saying, “I’m not that bad, am I”. This is worldly behavior not godly.
As Christians, we need godly behaviors to influence our life. One is to “do good” because it is right. Doing good is not always easy. As we mature godly behaviors such as integrity, honesty, dependability, loyalty and the desire to serve others become part of our nature. These behaviors should be the foundation of our good deeds as we help others grow in God. Before long you realize that life is better and you have more because you give more.
Trusting God in everything gives security that you will be fine. Many times through my life, when at my lowest, doing good for someone else brought me out of my doldrums. After explaining about how to utilize her health insurance to the fullest a friend was able to save $120 per year on over the counter products along with lowering her medication co-pays. She was very excited to have this information. Just seeing her face made me feel better because God used me to do good.
