WORD OF THE DAY IS INHERITANCE

Ps 37:18 Day by day the Lord takes care of the innocent, and they will receive an inheritance that lasts forever.

An inheritance is something you leave for others after you die. However, it can also be something you give to someone while you live. My mother gave me a framed quote that says “What you are is God’s gift to you…What you make of yourself is your gift to God.” I believe Jesus’ death on the cross gave me an inheritance of life. What I do with that life is a special gift back to him. My life is also a gift to others if I set a good example of living for God. Saving the planet, curing cancer, countering global warming or reducing waste are all things we should work toward but what about a smile, a helping hand, or inviting someone to a church fellowship.

When your pastor calls that someone needs a ride to church, do it. When someone at works needs a specific day off, switch with them. Take neighborhood children with you when you go to the park with yours.  Whatever you do that shows an example of godly behavior to others will be something they remember.

My youngest son gave me a gift when he said, “Thanks for being there when I needed you the most.” Being present in his life meant more to him than the material things we bought him. That is the legacy I want to leave.

  1. Thank you for this excellent post. I especially liked what you said about being there for your children is more important than material things. That is so true.
