Ps 7:9 End the evil of those who are wicked, and defend the righteous. For you look deep within the mind and heart, O righteous God.
Slanderous accusations of those who claimed David is a traitor and sought to kill Saul and seize the throne had surfaced. Cush, a supporter of King Saul, targeted David in a campaign of lies and gossip. David had no way to prove his innocence. The more he tried to justify himself, the deeper he sank into the evil surrounding him.
I have been in this predicament. When God blesses his children people can respond with jealously and envy. These emotions motivate people to lie against us. When you are the brunt of lies, many emotions and thoughts can erupt. Do I respond in kind by lashing out at the person? Do I defend myself with the truth knowing that the accuser will never accept it?
What can we do when someone attacks our honor, integrity and everything we stand for? Talk to God. Ask Him to defend you and take refuge behind His shield of protection. The attacks may continue for years but stand firm in the knowledge that he knows what you are going through. Remember, he suffered persecution and death on the cross. Let your heart shine through. Ask God to expose the truth. Eventually an “evil” person will dig so deep that they will fall into the pit that they tried to dig for you. An evil person brings trouble upon himself. Let God deal with your persecutors.
Jena, Praise God you are following His leadership in writing this book! You are speaking for Him. Many will be blessed, as I am, by these devotions. I am so proud of you and the gift God has given you!!!
